Donald Trump isn’t even president yet and the threats are already flying because people say things that other people don’t like… I got to encounter this nonsense for myself a little while ago.
Is this what we have to look forward to for the next 4 years?
The very people who were upset because of people harassing them over speech that they didn’t like… harassing other American’s because of the speech that they don’t like?
Will we all really have to suffer through that hypocrisy?
This is a prime example of exactly the kind of hateful and childish nonsense we have to stand against as a people. One of the greatest threats to American democracy is the erosion of our inherent right to speak.
Even if people are merely afraid to speak… even if there is no real legal threat stopping them… just fear alone can erode our democratic values. Fear can change what we say, how we say it, and when we say it. That’s an important thing to acknowledge.
Free speech is for everybody all the time. Not just for the current political group in power.
