So Intel has just recently announced their latest AI chip, known as Gaudi 3…
Intel on Tuesday unveiled its latest artificial intelligence chip, called Gaudi 3, as chipmakers rush to produce semiconductors that can train and deploy big AI models, such as the one underpinning OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Intel says the new Gaudi 3 chip is over twice as power-efficient as and can run AI models one-and-a-half times faster than Nvidia’s

H100 GPU. It also comes in different configurations like a bundle of eight Gaudi 3 chips on one motherboard or a card that can slot into existing systems.
Intel’s strategy for Gaudi seems to be to sell high volumes at lower prices… the Walmart of AI chips essentially. Which is kind of embarrassing for a company that used to charge astronomical prices for its Xeon processors. Oh how the world has changed.
If Intel’s performance measurements are correct then Gaudi really could be a helpful chip for cloud companies. Energy usage absolutely has to stop increasing, it is currently not sustainable to have an exponentially growing power draw. Any chip that can genuinely help boost performance per watt is welcome.
Maybe Gaudi will become the next big thing! Who knows…
