As previously stated here, I truly hate Ross (the character on Friends).
Ross: Wow, you guys…
Ross: Sure have a lot of books about being a lesbian.
Susan: Well, you know, you have to take a course.
Susan: Otherwise, they don’t let you do it.
When I was a child I thought Susan was needlessly mean to Ross. Then as I got older I realized Ross was an asshat and Susan was the only one on the show that could see it.
Ross is an asshat. He was insanely jealous and raged about everything. He was remarkably self involved and Susan acted as a counterpoint to his self involvement.
Susan seemed to be originally written as some kind of uncaring, wife stealing, lesbian for Ross to hate in the show. Something for his character to spew “witty” hate at and add “depth” to his role. But seeing as Ross’ behavior is so ridiculously poor, Susan comes out looking like a little goddess to the viewer.
Ross ultimately doesn’t seem to have a relationship with his son beyond the fourth season. His son is merely used as a plot device, just like Susan.
I hate Ross Geller and you should too.
