Pete Souza’s Historical Highlights on Instagram

the present is the past… the past is the present… wait what…

As Pete Souza is one to do, he highlighted the historical parallel between trump and Obama today.

AHEM…

If you don’t remember or were just a kiddo at the time, the Recovery Act was meant to… in other words… make America great again. It was introduced as a form of stimulus to reduce the blow of the Great Recession to the economy. Its effects are debatable but the great thing is we aren’t here to have that debate!

An aside on the Recovery Act

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) (Pub.L. 111–5), commonly referred to as The Stimulus or The Recovery Act, was a stimulus package enacted by the 111th United States Congress in February 2009 and signed into law on February 17, 2009, by President Barack Obama.

To respond to the Great Recession, the primary objective for ARRA was to save and create jobs almost immediately. Secondary objectives were to provide temporary relief programs for those most affected by the recession and invest in infrastructure, education, health, and renewable energy. The approximate cost of the economic stimulus package was estimated to be $787 billion at the time of passage, later revised to $831 billion between 2009 and 2019.[1] The Act included direct spending in infrastructure, education, health, and energy, federal tax incentives, and expansion of unemployment benefits and other social welfare provisions. It also created the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board.

What we are here to talk about is the parallel between Obama and Trump. Just as Obama focused on making America great again on February 17th as President… so is Trump.

Trump spoke, on February 17th, at a Boeing plant in South Carolina…

Promising “to unleash the power of the American spirit, and to put our great people back to work,” Trump said that “we want products made in America, made by American hands.”

“My focus has been all about jobs. And jobs is one of the primary reasons I’m standing here today as your president,” Trump said. “And I will never, ever disappoint you. Believe me, I will not disappoint you.”

It’s funny how life works out isn’t it. Same day, same general idea, two different Presidents.

It’s almost like we all want the same general things but just can’t get over the fact that other people disagree on how to achieve those things. Sad.

Anyways, the narrative power of photography strikes again. This time it’s giving us a history lesson… tomorrow we’ll probably be back to trolling Trump.
