So I’ve changed my mind, Prismatic Evolutions and 151 will get reprints. It’s just that those reprints are going to happen a longer time after initial release than I would have thought.
That’s now my bet.
The Pokemon Company is just going to slot reprints for both sets into their print schedule over a year past their initial release. Which is why it seemed like neither one would get reprints, with the reprint being so far in the future. But with a reprint 151 and Prismatic Evolutions might actually end up being available for three years each. So that’s good news for collectors if it turns out to be true.
I don’t think that these reprints will be down purely to profit motive. I think there’s some sneaky marketing at play here as well. I think The Pokemon Company knows it has driven up hype for these products and wants to maintain it because it benefits other sets as well. It benefits the whole brand really. And dropping a reprint a significant time after initial release could be the way they maintain hype.
I may be wrong, I may be right. At this point who knows, it’s all speculation.
However the reprint will most likely not include the previous products that include things like binders but rather new things like blooming waters and also booster bundles. There’s a problem with reprinting the Binder Collection for example… the binder is made in China. With the Trump Administration’s harsh China tariffs coming up The Pokemon Company might get screwed over on imported binders, making the product less profitable or unprofitable.
Prismatic Evolutions products that include accessories may also have some trouble with tariffs, making their reprinting unlikely. But a reminder, while accessories seem to generally come from China trading cards are printed in the United States. So booster bundles should be safe from tariffs.
We live in confusing times. I didn’t think a reprint of 151 would happen over a year after release but now it makes sense to me. I think The Pokemon Company will behave exactly the same with Prismatic Evolutions as they do with 151. So yeah, I bet we’re getting reprints.
