Ro Khanna is wrong… Liberals should abandon X. BlueSky is the place to be.
“I think that everything he has said publicly is he believes in free and open speech, and we need to have more platforms. Now, I don’t think X should be the only platform,” Khanna told Anne McElvoy for POLITICO’s Power Play podcast. “Not only do I stay, I use it all the time … I don’t think that the answer for progressives is to disengage.”
“Now we have the distortion of the public sphere with moneyed interests and with digital spaces that aren’t equal for everyone to participate. And what we ought to be focused on is how do we create more town hall-like places for conversation online.”

Yeah no.
You don’t just magically create a town hall, you don’t magically get what you want, by engaging on X. X is filled to the brim with arrogance and hatred. It is toxic and a threat to democracy.
It is not everyone’s job to deal with hate every time they log on. It is not people’s job to be the Democratic Party’s messengers. Not only is being a liberal messenger a threat to a person’s mental health it very well could end up being a threat to personal safety thanks to Elon Musk calling people out on his twitter.
Going to BlueSky does not mean anybody has given up on conversation. It just means that people are choosing to engage in a healthier and more polite manner.
Again it is not liberal’s job to be messengers.
It is the Democratic Party’s job to get their shit together. Politicians should abandon X. Everyone should abandon X. We as a society need a social media reset and BlueSky provides that. Hopefully other new social media companies will provide that as well.
Oh and not to mention enriching the wealthiest man in the world is again not people’s job. Elon Musk doesn’t need more attention or money. “Townhalls” can be held on other platforms. It’s silly to think people should be engaging when nobody wants to engage, they just want to hate.
Liberals should abandon X and “reset”.
