A handful of people have now reported that Innistrad Remastered foil cards are pringling right out of the wrapper. So that’s fun.
Pringling of course is where the card bends at the center forming a sort of Pringles chip shape. This makes the card unusable in play and well that makes the card basically worthless if you can’t play with it…
Imagine spending $30 on a collectors booster pack to only find that your foils all pringled within ten minutes of you opening it. Environment has a lot to do with pringling, with dry air and humid air each causing the card to pringle in opposite directions. But the card makeup also has to do with pringling.
I will remind you that back in the day foils often survived for a good while without pringling. I have several foils that have remained perfect despite being in a number of different environments over the course of 20 years. It feels like the further you get down the road from the 2000s the more pringling occurs. This could be due to a change in cardstock or in how the cards are foiled. Regardless pringling is a very real issue that doesn’t seem to get as much attention as it deserves.
I will also remind you that pringling doesn’t occur in other trading cards at the rate it does in Magic the Gathering. Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, baseball cards… while they do bend and warp they just don’t seem to do it at the rate or degree as Magic the Gathering. I’ve opened boxes of Magic cards to only find that every single foil land has pringled in their wrapper.
It’s just silly that we’re spending money on cards that are instantly becoming unplayable. It would be nice if Wizards of the Coast took notice.
