Apparently some Targets, a handful, now have limits on the quantity of Pokemon products you can buy and have removed their Pokemon card products to the front of the store. This follows GameStop’s decision yesterday to limit Prismatic Evolutions products to two units per customer (not including preorders).
This is a welcome development. I was worried that someone would get punched in the face in the scramble for Prismatic Evolutions Friday morning. Now I do not know if this is a company wide policy that is being rolled out. I’m hoping so. But it is a policy being enforced across a handful of Targets that I know of.
So that means GameStop has addressed the scalpers and hoarders problem, The Pokemon Company itself has addressed the scalpers and hoarders problem with promises of reprints, and Target is now beginning to address the scalpers and hoarders problem… this leaves Walmart.
Let’s hope Walmart joins in and limits purchases because it would be a real shame if scalpers all just lined up outside of Walmart instead of Target to snatch as much product as they possibly can. Hopefully The Pokemon Company has been in contact with them to arrange limits on units per person.
An orderly release of Prismatic Evolutions will really help restore the Pokemon hobby’s image. Right now we have people quitting the hobby because they just can’t keep up with scalpers and hoarders and do not want to pay 3x MSRP. More people being able to get Prismatic Evolutions and in an orderly manner is just so much better than an all out melee.
Remember, release is this Friday. Good luck out there!
