The reality is nobody cares about Sony’s A-mount cameras or lenses… they’re the forgotten, downtrodden, Sony products that just don’t seem at all interesting to anybody anymore.
What’s interesting to people is the E-mount system with all of its fanciness and sleek new gizmos… for example, the E-mount 135mm f/1.8 lens that’s rumored to be coming. That’s pretty interesting right? What interesting thing has the A-mount gotten in the past few years?
Well about that 135mm lens, it may surprise you that Sony already has a 135mm f/1.8 lens… for the boring A-mount.
The A-mount Sony Sonnar T* 135mm f/1.8 ZA Lens was first introduced by Sony in 2006 and doesn’t seem to have been touched since…
The A-mount design is well liked by everyone… with the lens providing notably smooth bokeh and impressive sharpness at its maximum aperture.
So it would make a heck of a lot of sense for Sony to simply recycle the A-mount 135mm f/1.8 and turn it into and E-mount lens. The E-mount is probably going to weigh a similar amount, have a very similar optical formula, and perform basically the same as the A-mount. It will probably just be a 2006 lens repackaged as something new and fancy and shiny.
Does the 135mm E-mount lens sound as interesting now?
I’m guessing not.
