The Olympic Gemini Commercial Has Been Removed From the Lineup

If you’re just now catching up, Google has been playing an advertisement during the Olympics where a father asks Google’s Gemini to write a fan letter for her…

I previously said “Who on earth would take something as personal as writing a fan letter and have an AI do it for them?” It’s just dumb. We can’t live in a world where everyone’s first reaction is to use AI programs.

Well anyways Google has now pulled the advertisement.

Google has pulled an Olympics ad for its chatbot Gemini from airwaves following backlash for the way it depicts a little girl using artificial intelligence to write a fan letter.

The ad, titled “Dear Sydney,” showed a girl’s dad prompting the AI chatbot to help write a letter to her favorite athlete, U.S. hurdler and sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Google launched Gemini, formerly known as Bard, last year following the surge in popularity of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Well that’s a good thing. As a society we do not need to be writing every single little thing with AI. Not only will our writing skills diminish but our sincerity will too. We have to address these issues now before bad habits become entrenched.
