Earlier in the year I speculated that the Sony 400mm E mount lens would cost a fortune… based off of the price premium Sony demands over its competitors already that would’ve meant the lens would be priced at $14,000 to $15,000. Which would’ve made it one of the highest priced lenses available for a consumer photographic lens.
But!
Sony decided to take the high road and price the new 400mm at only $12,000!
This compares to Canon’s 400mm f/2.8 priced at $10,000…
And the Sony 400mm f/2.8 is only priced a little above Nikon’s 400mm lens…
So ultimately, while Sony’s new 400mm lens is priced above competitors, it isn’t priced so high that it’s in the ‘extremely unreasonable‘ range… which is nice…
Can’t wait to see the price tags for the Sony 500mm and 600mm f/4. If the 400 is $12,000 that means they’ll be what $15,000.
