So this Black Friday has sucked Pokemon wise. Stores did not really offer much in the way of discounts on Pokemon products.
GameStop had $25 ETBs earlier in the week. Those went pretty fast. And GameStop had a $20 off Charizard statue which is kind of a joke deal wise because even at $20 off you’re still buying booster packs at $6 a piece. But hey it was great if you like Charizard statues. They did also have a $5 off Pro membership promo. You aren’t saving very much but I guess $5 is $5.
Target did have 30% off and had Prismatic Evolutions pre-orders. So that’s nice. Of course the Pokemon products on sale sold out pretty quickly and Target doesn’t carry things like booster boxes and instead has a whole bunch of collection boxes which I’m assuming are higher margin.
Walmart had two collection boxes and five different tins. The tins were the best deal you could get this Black Friday because some of them contained Evolving Skies booster packs. Getting just one Evolving Skies booster pack in your tin meant the whole thing was already paid for. The tin was $15 and an Evolving Skies booster pack was $15.
Amazon didn’t have anything I’ll mention because I do not believe in buying trading card products from Amazon. It is unsafe. The sheer amount of product that is opened, pilfered, and resealed is insane. Amazon should not be allowing returns of trading card products at all but they just stupidly continue to take back anything and everything and then relist it for sale so some unsuspecting customer will get screwed over.
The PokemonCenter.com didn’t drop anything interesting. The best they did were Skateboard and watch bundles for $350. Which I found surprising. I’m not sure I understand why the PokemonCenter.com didn’t drop at least one interesting trading card product for Black Friday.
And multiple games stores had no Black Friday sale whatsoever!
So yeah, not a very good showing this year. It seems that each store had something, but it just wasn’t great. Oh did I mention that retail stores profit margins have doubled since 2001. So it’s not like they don’t have room in their budgets to give people a good deal. But I guess that’s just how things go these days.
