U.S. Military Increasing AI’s Roles

The Silicon Valley meetings provided a rare glimpse into the progress of the Defense Department’s “Replicator” initiative, which the federal government hopes will remake the military by infusing AI into weapons systems.

Defense Department adviser Joy Angela Shanaberger told the gathering of hundreds of technology entrepreneurs, funders and government personnel that the military’s goal is to field multiple thousands of all-domain autonomous systems by August 2025.

Aditi Kumar, deputy director of the Defense Innovation Unit, said the autonomous systems will be built up quickly, safely and responsibly under the guidelines of a policy for autonomous weapons created in January 2023, DOD Directive 3000.09.

A note…

Oh geesh that’s not concerning at all.

Thousands of autonomous systems by 2025?

OpenAI, the best in the business, can’t even make multi-minute videos yet we’re supposed to believe that a multitude of AI systems will be mature enough to be ethical in the year 2025? One year from now? Shoving an AI model inside a Boston Dynamics dog does not make an ethical system.

It’s bullsquirt.
